Why is PPE So Important?

Why is PPE So Important?

PPE stands for Personal Protective Equipment. During the pandemic, supplies were low and the demand was high. PPE is protective clothing, helmets, goggles, or other items designed to protect the wearer’s body from injury or infection. These hazards can be anything from physical and electrical to biohazards or airborne particle matter. That last one is particularly important. With the confirmation that Coronavirus is a respiratory disease which spreads primarily through droplets generated when an infected person coughs or sneezes, having the correct PPE is important.

In the past, PPE has existed as a preventative measure for those in specific industries that are obviously vulnerable to certain hazards, such as those working in health care or manufacturing. However, with COVID-19 now affecting our lives daily and the world trying to learn to live with it, the Government will be keeping a close eye on infection rates and schools, hospitality businesses, leisure facilities and all other businesses could be affected as a result. All of the staff working will be put in a vulnerable position of being more likely to contract strains of Coronavirus.

There’s a variety of PPE that is available to companies that allows you to stay safely open whilst keeping staff and users of your service safe. These include but are not limited to:

  • Gloves. Disposable gloves such as these allow you to touch multiple surfaces without picking up bacteria on your hands or coming into contact with potential irritants. Clear Vinyl Powder Free Gloves are popular for single use in environments such as nurseries, in care and for everyday protection against dirt and contaminants.
  • Masks, because what you can’t see can still harm you. If you come into contact with anybody who has a contagious illness and droplets leave their mouth, a proper face mask can lessen the risk of these particles entering your body and protect you from dangerous illnesses such as COVID-19. They can also protect the wearer from breathing in potentially harmful chemicals and other particles.
  • Aprons & Protective Clothing. Being able to cover your clothes with a protective apron and then dispose of it means that you are then disposing of any harmful bacteria that would otherwise be resting on your clothes or skin and at risk of transfer or ingestion.
  • First Aid products are essential in any workplace. Having the safety of staff in mind is paramount to the running of any business and we supply a number of different first aid kits and products to help you do this. Whether you are in need of plaster, bandages, burns kits, eye wash kits of anything else you might need for first aid or safety, we can provide you with it.
  • Sun Protection is important for anyone working outside as prolonged sun exposure can cause serious long term damage to a person’s skin and overall health. Even if it is not a sunny day, the sun still gives off ultraviolet light that may be damaging. We can provide you with both high quality sun cream as well as dispensers. It’s especially important for children to be suitably protected against the sun.

It’s important that you are providing your staff or anyone in your care with personal protective equipment where it is needed as their safety is your priority. Not only are you physically keeping them safer, this will reflect in their working day too. Your employees will feel valued that they are being looked after and will feel less stress of contracting illness or coming to harm thanks to PPE.
